““Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed, nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; in the time of their punishment they shall be cast down,” says the Lord”. Jeremiah 8:12 (NKJV) see also 3:3, 6:15.
This passage, maybe more so than any other, speaks of those who do evil in this world today. We don’t have far to look to find perfect examples of what Jeremiah has written about; the abortion industry, the move to make transgender-ism and homosexuality the norm, elected officials calling for civil disobedience, pedophiles and sexual predators saluted by Hollywood and government alike. Lying and manipulation is the expected behavior for most of our elected officials and kickbacks and corruption are, well, just part of the “game”. Let’s not get too overwhelmed by these “biggies”; there is more than enough to point the finger at in the ranks of church folk. The member(faithful, hard worker, maybe even a church leader) who willingly disregards the laws of God and man and expects grace to cover their sin; not even considering (or caring about) the fact that their actions are contrary to God’s word and His expectations of us as Christians; these and more should give us reason to pause and consider the urgency in God’s word to Jeremiah. For those who are not followers of Christ Jesus the promise is simply stated, “They will be cast down,” says the Lord. Make no mistake friend or foe, God is going to destroy those who refuse to be ashamed for their actions that are contrary to His word. What about those who declare themselves to be followers of Jesus yet do not follow His teachings? What about those who are so smug in their comfort zone of church activity that they consider their own actions above reproach? “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7 Remember this too; “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6. Those, heathen and Christian alike, who exalt themselves and presume upon God’s grace will be humbled, and those who humble themselves (who recognize Him as Lord and are willingly obedient to His word) will be the beneficiaries of His matchless grace. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31 Especially for those who do not even know how to blush.
