A lion has roared!…The Lord God has spoken! (Amos 3:8 NKJV)
What a powerful thought picture, God, like a roaring lion has declared His will to His people, and once God speaks; like the hunting Lion whose roar never loses its power in the wild; His words never lose their authority, they will not return void, their purpose will be fulfilled. In Amos 3:7 the prophet Amos declares that God does nothing without revealing His secrets to the prophets. If we want to understand what God is doing in our time we must read what He has already spoken through the prophets of old, and continues to speak through those preachers and teachers of His word today. Great numbers of Christians today are urgently seeking to know what God is doing, to know what and how and through whom He is speaking.
I recently listened to a prophetic word that declared that this (2018) is the year that God will rebuke evil and exalt Christians above their enemies and bring prosperity to those who are the faithful (my paraphrase). It sounds great; what Christian wouldn’t want such things to happen? I would certainly be pleased should this come to pass; the problem lies in the fact that this prophecy is not supported by what God has already spoken; therefore I must reject it.
We would all be better served if we would read, obey, and depend upon what God has already said instead of looking for some “new” word. Many of those seeking inspiration or a fresh word from God do so in an attempt to find a way around what He has already spoken, hoping for a “loophole” in God’s law. Jesus said that not one jot or tittle would pass from the law till all is fulfilled (Matthew 5:18) and He gave a distinct warning about tampering with God’s words of prophecy in Revelation 22:18-19.
If we truly want to know what God is about today we must read what He has already said, a lion has roared! The Lord God has spoken!
