“This is indeed, as the song declares “the most wonderful time of the year!” The season for celebrating the birth of our Lord is upon us; time now to rejoice with friends and family as we remember a night some 2000 years ago when Christ Jesus was born. A night not unlike last night or perhaps tomorrow night; when the stars are brightly shining and we sense a profound presence in the air as the presence of God’s holiness invades the atmosphere. (I might have said pervades or permeates except that His presence is resisted or rejected by so many that it is only by His insistence that His presence is detected at all.) For those who earnestly seek His face these nights before Christmas hold a special blessing as we look upward at the majesty of the heavens; we can see with our eyes the reality of Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! Luke 2:14 (NKJV) There is something very special about looking up into the heavens on a clear cold night; not merely looking with our eyes but seeking with our spirits, seeking a connection, the connection that makes us whole. If we are sincere these times can produce for us an overwhelming sense of His presence and of our own belonging in that presence. This my friends is Christmas! It is of course a time for celebration, a time for giving and loving and caring for others because Jesus came giving, loving, and caring for us.
